Bon Clay (Kurei)

My oldest son introduced me to the anime, One Piece about two years ago.

And I fell in love with the story and characters almost immediately.

Though I really like Bon Clay – he’s known for some deeply inspiring words about friendship, loyalty, and self-acceptance –  one of my favorite characters has been Emporio Ivankov:

– probably because the character design is based onΒ  Tim Curry’s Frank N Furter (whom I’ve always loved) – and Ivankov is also a powerful leading member of the Revolutionary Army fighting against the World Government!

(I especially love Ivankov’s signature phrase  ‘yee-HAW’ – meant to subtly inspire revolution where-ever they go…)

There are several transgender and non binary characters in One Piece!

And I love seeing that sort of representation πŸ©΅πŸ©·πŸ€πŸ’™πŸ©·πŸ€πŸ’œπŸ–€πŸ’™

This is a variation on that meme from years past! Still true.

Leaving June with this final thought^^

And I’d also like to take a moment to say a big THANK YOU to all who stopped by my blog this month!

So we are coming to the end of the month of June, where I’ve been sharing various Pride memes daily, and today I would like to share with you a few particular favorites:

Here is the first one – based upon a scene from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine:

When I first saw this scene – I cried.

This scene makes me cry, not only because it captures such a lovely moment of friendship, but because it encapsulates a wholehearted acceptance of personal identity.

And that’s what moves me.

When I first saw this scene, I immediately worried that, as it happens in real life,Β  Kor *might* argue with Jadzia (imagining Kor responding with some insistence, as “you’ll always be Curzon *to me*” or some such) as I feared Kor would not accept the ‘new’ identity of his old friend- who is now identifying themselves as Jadzia – therefore rejecting/dismissing Jadzia for who they are now versus who they were before.

I mean, aren’t Klingons usually very conservative and strict in their mindsets about a lot of situations?

And I need not have – as Jadzia takes a calm breath and simply, gently corrects Kor while embracing him- and Kor immediately accepts/respects the correction and they both lean into the embrace, and into this wonderful moment of mutual joy and presence.

And that’s how it’s done.

And so, here is the other of my favorite memes for this month of Pride:

If a Klingon can recognize and embrace such a moment, then so can’t we all, eh?

Since this particular situation could have just as easily happened at my neighborhood library, you could say that I consider this of local (and of personal) interest to me.

Now, the only (unfortunate) difference is that it is  very likely that the Moms for Liberty folk vastly outnumber the people around here in Florida who’d agree with me on this being a good thing.

But this!

This outcome — even though it happened thousands of miles from where I am — gives me hope.

And that’s hope enough for me toΒ  keep trying, to keep pushing, and keep using my voice to to disagree with the Moms for Liberty and anyone else like them.
