I had just returned from walking my dog, and I sat down at the computer to check the Book of Faces to see that Lori – friend of mine – posted a link to this video:
Now, Lori might not know how much I have always loved the original of this song, as it was penned by Leon Russell, but to realize that there’s a version sung by Ray Charles makes it even sweeter.
Thank you, Lori.
You’ve no idea how much I love – and needed – to hear such sweetness today.

A duet with Ray Charles and Leon Russell on this song might have been an interesting thing … although their styles were a bit different, the soul in their voices compliment one another quite well.
Why did you write that you needed to hear this today? Today more than any other day, or today like any other day?
I’m still scratching my head a little about ‘Pandoramancy’ – I’ve never heard this word. I can break apart and I understand what it’s components mean; but putting them together is a puzzle ….
I agree that Ray Charles and Leon Russell have different yet complimentary styles.
That day was a rather emotionally stressful/socially anxious day, and it helped a lot to hear this particular song as I associate that song with specific positive memories/thoughts.
‘Pandoramancy’ is a word that I like to use, but it has the same meaning as ‘shufflemancy’ – which can be used as a form of divination, as referenced here: http://ow-deer.tumblr.com/post/47515345193/shufflemancy-101
Usually there isn’t a particular question that I ask, I just put Pandora (or Spotify) on shuffle, and consider what comes up as a response to whatever prayer/offering that I’ve made for the day. And to bring it back to your question why I ‘needed’ to hear this song – I had been feeling anxious and a little overly emotional for several days (including some strong response feelings I have involving a big portion of my devotional practice among other things) and this song and its positive associations popped up in a rather welcome way from a surprisingly unexpected place.
